Certified Phlebotomy Technician

​​Phlebotomy Class Overview

A phlebotomy career enables professionals to work with a wide variety of people and to draw blood at hospital and healthcare sites or even through unique types of jobs. For example, some phlebotomists might go from home to home collecting blood samples from life insurance applicants that are used in underwriting procedures to determine their eligibility and rates.

Learning is a lifelong process that extends beyond the classroom. At Harborview School of Phlebotomy our Phlebotomy Classes prepare individuals for work in the medical field both in laboratories, physician’s offices, nursing homes and hospitals . The program is designed with input from educators, caregivers and medical representatives from across the United States. Harborview School of Phlebotomy gives you the best learning experience in the our Phlebotomy Classes.      

PHLEBOTOMISTS:  Draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research. May explain the procedure to patients and assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions.

Phlebotomy Task:

  • ​Collect fluid or tissue samples, using appropriate collection procedures.
  • Dispose of blood or other bio-hazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
  • Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
  • Document route of specimens from collection to laboratory analysis and diagnosis.
  • Draw blood from arteries, using arterial collection techniques.
  • Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods.
  • Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods.

 Phlebotmy Required Skills:​

  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Writing - Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience..

Phlebotomy Training Classes Requirements and Cost

Harborview School, Certified Phlebotomy Technician Training has the following requirements.

  • Must be 18 years old and present a photo ID at time of registration
  • Present HS Diploma / GED or  College Transcripts
  • Proof of Malpractice insurance on or before the first day of class.
  • Complete application form 
  • Complete an updated physical and PPD form.
